D.C. - DAY THREE

Day three in D.C. was dedicated to the spiritual realm...of sorts. We kicked off the day at the Exorcist Steps in Georgetown. No morning is complete without exercising the demons at the crack of the first yawn. The steps are a hop-and-a-fall from Georgetown University, which is the oldest Catholic school in the America.

Next, we rested at the Kahlil Gibran Memorial Garden. The garden was dedicated in 1990, and in 2012 Gibran became one of my top five inspirational figures.

A short walk down Massachusetts Avenue is the Nelson Mandela statue at the South African Embassy. South African artist Jean Doyle modeled the sculpture from photographs of Mr. Mandela leaving prison in 1990s. The sight of Mr. Mandela is very inspiring.

The following stops were an emotional rollercoaster at spiritual Disneyland. I was able to dedicate time with God at the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America, Ukrainian National Shrine of the Holy Land, Saint John Paul III National Shrine, the Catholic University of America and the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception where Pope Francis canonized Junipero Serra on September 22, 2015. Pope Francis is the first Hispanic brass of the Catholic Church, so making Mr. Serra the first U.S. Hispanic saint is very special as a Chicano from Aztlān. The Basilica is a must-see in D.C.. If you leave D.C. without a visit to the Shrine, God bless your soul. You will be missing out.

After mass, we had a few beers at Right Proper Brewing Company. The Ornette, a farmhouse wheat ale (3.7% ABV), is fantastic. "Fermented with a mix of yeasts...dry and sprite with flavors of pepper, hay, and stone fruit..." was very delicious and made to perfection. The beer is named after jazz player Ornette Coleman. Before leaving Shaw, I posed in front of another musical icon to be in tune with another soul legend.

On our way home, and to finally celebrate Cantillon Zwanze Day 2015 we stopped at Church....Key. Located in Logan Circle, Church Key is a must for any beer lover.

Cantillon on tap!?

Going to Church always feels good doesn’t it?
